Primera Agua

Multi-Day Event Series!

In 2024,  we are expanding on the Primera Agua ceremonial tradition and making a multi-day series where we invite South Valley comisionados, parciantes, students, and community members to a blessing of the opening of the flood gates.

Here are insights on what’s in store for the 2024 Primera Aguas!

Ceremony

Sunday, April 7, 2024 | @ 10 a.m. | @ Corner of Central Ave. & Sunset Blvd

The Primera Agua Ceremony will be held at the head gate of the Atrisco Acequia Madre.

Come to enjoy an Acequia Blessing and an Acequia Walk & Talk, to share stories related to acequias and our community.

Local community members connected to acequia and agricultural traditions will lead both the blessing and the Walk & Talk.

*This event is a closed event for Valle Vista Elementary School & Polk Middle School.*

Fun Run

Sunday, April 14, 2024 | @ 9 a.m. | @ Sanchez Farms

This event is a community-based fundraiser to support the continuation of the CESOSS Cultivando Nuestro Futuro Leadership Institute now on its 8th successful cohort.

The main purpose of this institute is to take a proactive role in the development of new generations of leaders in our communities.

Our institute is framed on traditional and Indigenous knowledge systems that are used to guide our emerging community leaders in further understanding issues related to land and water that impact New Mexican communities (e.g. water rights; land rights; food justice; environmental justice; etc.).

We also integrate the importance of legislation and local policy development into our institute. We are proud of our Leadership Institute, it’s the heart of our small, South Valley-based nonprofit.

- All proceeds from the event are used to support the continuation of the CESOSS Leadership Institute. -
