COMUNIDAD PRESENTE

We are excited to announce one of our newest projects - Comunidad PresenteComunidad Presente is a media project dedicated to bringing you the stories from the Middle Rio Grande. Comunidad Presente airs on 102.1 FM KQUQ Community Radio, housed in RFK Charter School. It will also be available as a podcast in late July 2017.

Comunidad Presente is a media project that focuses on bringing you the stories from the Middle Rio Grande. Episode 1 provides an overview of the radio project and we also begin to delve into the story of the community's battle against the Santolina Master Plan. The Santolina Master Plan is a proposed development that would cover 13,850 acres on the Southwest Mesa.  At build out, it is projecting over 37,000 houses, plus commercial and industrial buildings to be built on the original Atrisco Land Grant. The developers project an estimated population of 95,000 people - that is almost the size of Rio Rancho. In other words, the developers are proposing a new city to be built that will add greater demands to our already strained water system and will take much needed resources from already existing communities. This episode and others that follow in this series will focus on the many negative impacts of the Santolina development.

Future episodes will include interviews with community members talking about issues that most impact them, local music, and report outs from events. You can hear Comunidad Presente on 102.1 FM KQUQ Community Radio. For more information visit our website at comunidadpresente.org.
