AGUA ES SAGRADA INITIATIVE
Our Agua es Sagrada Initiative strengthens and sustains the resilience of the Valle de Atrisco (South Valley), an underrepresented community in Bernalillo County. This initiative focuses on reconnecting families and community members to land- and water-based traditions through advocacy and community-based education. Through this work, we continue to promote the understanding that water is life and must be protected as a collective and intergenerational responsibility. Grounded in the traditions of the Indo-Hispano peoples of the Río Grande and the Valle de Atrisco, this initiative empowers community members to defend water rights and sustain acequia-based ways of life.
